Padel Coaching Journey: Brett Bellamy at British Padel Academy

Sport has always been at the centre of my life. My background is rooted in professional football, alongside personal training and working with people with disabilities, including cerebral palsy, autism and Down syndrome.

Playing professionally shaped my standards and approach to padel coaching. It taught me discipline, preparation and performance at a high level, foundations that now influence every session I deliver. Over time, I have developed a clear coaching style focused on helping players understand the “why” behind their development so they can improve with confidence and consistency.

Working with individuals with disabilities has also broadened my perspective. It strengthened my ability to adapt, communicate clearly and see progress through different lenses, all of which are central to effective padel coaching today.

How Brett Bellamy Found Padel Coaching

I discovered padel when I was searching for a new competitive outlet after playing less football. I wanted something intense, tactical and challenging, and padel gave me exactly that.

Meeting Dan was my first time stepping onto a padel court at The Warehouse, formerly Padel Ipswich. I will never forget what he said:

“Get yourself in the advanced group. You will sink to start with, but you will pick it up quickly, and that is the best way to learn.”

At the time, I thought he was mad, but I trusted him.

Being around Dan accelerated my development quickly. His attention to detail and ability to spot potential in people is exceptional. I absorb information well, and I took every opportunity put in front of me to learn, improve and grow.

Today, I coach out of The Warehouse alongside Dan as part of the British Padel Academy team. We regularly exchange ideas, challenge each other and collaborate on session delivery. The respect is mutual, and together we add real value to the coaching environment in Ipswich.

The Power of Community in Padel Coaching

One of the strongest aspects of padel coaching is the community around it. Having other coaches to lean on for learning, feedback or encouragement is invaluable.

Sharing ideas, refining approaches and supporting each other raises standards across the board. That collaborative culture is central to British Padel Academy and plays a key role in developing both players and coaches.

Brett Bellamy’s Padel Coaching Philosophy

My favourite part of coaching is seeing the moment something clicks. When you show a player a small technical or tactical adjustment and they immediately feel the improvement, the shift in confidence is incredible.

Padel coaching is not just about technique. It is about understanding the game, building belief and creating an environment where players can grow.

Future Aspirations in Professional Padel Coaching

I have coached high-level professionals in football and golf, and now my ambition is to reach that same level within padel coaching. I want to continue developing elite players while also playing a meaningful role in strengthening the wider padel community.

Padel is a beautiful, tactical and fast-growing sport. My goal is to help players and coaches deepen their understanding of the game, from grassroots participation through to high performance.

The journey continues, and I am excited to keep building it with British Padel Academy.
